Ann Grebeck, Scranton School District
“Students get a sense of pride from the items because it makes them feel important and special. They learn at an early age the importance of being prepared for school. Often our students are latchkey kids, going from one family member’s home to another to daycares and foster care homes. The backpacks are their ‘home base’ where all their school treasures, weekend clothes, and snacks are taken to the many places they travel each day.”

in the beginning...
The College first adopted third-grade students at George Bancroft Elementary School and continues to serve that population to this day. In 2014, the ROCKET Project expanded to aid students at John Adams Elementary School, and in 2015 the College began donating supplies to South Scranton Intermediate School.
In that time, the project funded playground renovations at Bancroft Elementary. Renovations were completed by student-athletes, Police Academy cadets, and staff.
SERVING THE GREATER NEPA
CHECK OUT THOSE smiles!
Funds for the ROCKET Project are raised through monthly on-campus fundraisers that are strongly supported by current College faculty and staff members, local businesses, and more.
Lackawanna has also received additional donations to benefit the ROCKET Project from Follett, M&T Bank, and the law firm of Cognetti & Cimini.
We are currently accepting monetary donations to aid the 900 Scranton School District students displaced due to asbestos concerns.
